Morgane Salmon

Born in 1987, Morgane Salmon lives and works in Strasbourg.

She’s a ceramicist and visual artist, and draws inspiration from the exuberance of nature. The daughter of Maguy Pfenninger, an American cultural mediator, and Maurice Salmon, a master bookbinder, she grew up immersed in an artistic environment. She began sculpting clay at the age of eight and, in 2012, established her Strasbourg studio, Heurgothique.

Artistic approach

Morgane Salmon’s work, which explores themes of nature and biodiversity, was first exhibited at Galerie Ritsch-Fisch in 2024. Her oeuvre examines our relationship with the living world, illuminating the ephemeral beauty of ecosystems and the interdependence of their elements. Drawing inspiration from a wondrous imaginary garden, she crafts rich and dynamic compositions that evoke our most secret gardens.

Her creative process, rooted in accumulation and layering, alludes to erosion, growth, and constant transformation, while expressing a vision that transcends mere realistic depiction. The vivid colors and exuberant forms of her pieces illustrate not only the richness of biodiversity but also its inherent fragility.

Through her work, Morgane Salmon interrogates our relationship with the environment, oscillating between fascination and exploitation, and underscores the urgent need to preserve this diversity. Her artistic approach aligns with those of other contemporary artists who also use materials and forms to address societal and environmental questions.

With a deceptive naivety, Morgane Salmon’s practice moves beyond straightforward celebration of the natural world. It invites us to contemplate the fragility of ecosystems and our responsibility for this precious legacy. With gentleness and poetic resonance, the artist reminds us of the importance of a respectful and conscious approach to our environment, enriching our understanding of contemporary challenges through a stimulating aesthetic experience.
